It makes me sad when I hear about couples ending relationships that have lasted 5, 10, 15 or more years. I don’t think they gave themselves the chance or really tried to work through phases 2 and 3. If they did, and truly worked at it, they would find so much satisfaction and, as you say, the true ‘love’ that feels so incredible. It is so ‘freeing’ to know I can be annoyed at my wonderful husband and even argue with him and know he’s not going anywhere. The comfort and happiness of that feeling is impossible to explain in words but is more than worth the work to get there.
