God is a community of Three Persons; we are created in God’s image and likeness (Gen 1:26-17); we need community. But there is a difference between love as an active verb (something you do or generously give) and the “desire to be loved.” The “desire” indicates an inordinate focus on receiving – on what I can get out of the experience. I read it as a selfishness or neediness, as opposed to grounding oneself in God’s love with confident knowledge of being loved by the Creator of the Universe. I read it as struggling with “needing to be liked.” So it’s never a question of being loved, it’s petitioning God to be delivered from a self-centered desire.

This seems contrary to our human nature. We all want to love and to be loved at the human level.
